It’s Our Favorite Holiday: 4th of July in New York City

In 1776, on July 4th, our 13 colonies claimed their independence from England. And each year, we, in 2019, celebrate their success in a full swing of activities around the country. In New York City specifically, it can be overwhelming to figure out what you’re going to do this upcoming Independence Day. Well, fear not, we’re here to help you figure out where and what to do this next Thursday.

So let’s take a look at what is actually going on during this favorite summer holiday of ours.

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

Since the 4th of July is a federal holiday, we’re hoping that you have the day off, but if you find yourself productively working during the day you can still partake in some of the festivities like the fireworks show. Each year, thousands of people gather to the banks of the East River in New York City to watch the Macy’s fireworks show. First held in 1958, it has become a summer tradition and is one of the biggest fireworks shows in the entire country. This fireworks show also frequently hosts live performances by popular artists, choirs, quartets, and gospel groups. The show starts as soon as the sun goes down, so make sure that you have plenty of time to park and find the best view in the house.

Hot Dog Eating Contest

One of the funniest traditions in New York City might just be Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. This event encompasses around 20 competitors who will fight to see who can consume the largest number of Nathan’s hot dogs in under ten minutes. TEN MINUTES! This July tradition has boasted over 40,000 in attendance and this year is going to be no different. The world champion hot dog eater is back again to hopefully break his record of 74 hot dogs in ten minutes, so this is definitely something you won’t want to miss. Starting around 11 am, this event is fun for the whole family.

Fireworks Cruise

If you want to skip the crowds on the streets, going on a fireworks cruise might be the perfect activity for you. With several cruise lines offering them, this experience offers you a unique view of both the city and the fireworks show. Instead of elbowing people off in the crowds you can enjoy a relaxing night filled with food and beverages, and ultimately the best view in the house. Fireworks cruises are sought after by both locals and tourists so be sure to book your reservations fast and treat yourself to enjoy a night upon a luxurious boat.

4th of July Parties

In New York City, there is no shortage of parties, especially for the 4th of July. No matter where you go, every bar around town will be celebrating with specialty drinks and deals that you can enjoy all night long. All your favorite clubs from 1Oak, Marquee, and Lavo will be packed with partiers but if you’re opting for something a little less boujee, just take a stroll around the city. You’re sure to find something that catches your eye!

Bounce Sporting Club

If you’re looking for a place with delicious drinks, gourmet food, and breathtaking rooftop views, Bounce Sporting Club is the perfect place to relax or party your way through the 4th of July. Located off 21st Street with views of the entire city, Bounce Sporting Club has both private and semi-private rooms available for reservation whether you’re wanting to host a corporate event, private function, or just want a bit more space from the rest of the 4th of July go-ers. You’ll be able to see the city and the fireworks show with a cocktail a view that not many others will have, and honestly, there’s nothing better than that!

Other Factors

Keep in mind that since it is a federal holiday, most if not all parking will be free. If you’re planning on visiting any major attractions like the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, of the Statue of Liberty, you may want to check their hours, but most should be open. Only government buildings such as post offices, banks, and the stock market will stay closed on the holiday. All New York subways and buses will be running as usual and maybe a better option since Uber and Lyft fees will be expected to surge throughout the day.

At Bounce Sporting Club, we hope you have a fun and safe 4th of July this summer. Contact us today to make your reservation! No matter how big or small your holiday party is, we guarantee that you’ll have the best 4th of July. While we don’t have to party like it’s 1776, we can’t wait to see you!
