Macy’s Fireworks Display
For people who love fireworks, there is nothing better than the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks in New York. It is the nation’s largest Independence Day firework display in front of the nation’s largest city. Last year the firework display returned to the East River for it’s 41st Anniversary, even though the year before that it was in the Hudson River. They have not yet announced the location for this year’s firework display, but keep an eye out so you know where to watch!
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
One of the most famous 4th of July traditions in America takes place in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Content is open to the public and takes place on the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues. It has taken place at this location for every year since 1916 and this year will be the 102nd installment of the contest. The audience is huge every year so the earlier you show up, the better your view will be.
Sightseeing Cruises in New York Harbor
Another great way to celebrate the 4th of July is to take a sightseeing tour of the New York City skyline. There are plenty of different guided sightseeing cruises that travel around New York Harbor, giving you an abundance of history about the city. What better way to celebrate than learning more about our country’s history and seeing the sights and sounds of New York!
Yankees or Mets Baseball Game
Baseball is America’s pastime, so it makes sense to celebrate 4th of July at a Major League Baseball game. Whether you decide to go see the Yankees or the Mets you are in for a treat since Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are both beautiful ballparks. You can find Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and Citi Field in Queens – with both being easily accessed through the subway system. During the week of 4th of July, the Yankees play the Boston Red Sox on July 1st and the Atlanta Braves from July 2nd to July 4th. The Mets, during the week of 4th of July, play at home against the Tampa Bay Rays from July 6th to July 8th.
