Etiquette of Being a Sports Fan

Bounce Sporting Club, the best sports bar and corporate event center in Chicago and NYC, has been exploring not only March Madness, but also the idea that sports can cause some sports fans to lose their cool in front of others and act irrationally. We’ve learned that part of this reason is due to mirror neurons and neurotransmitters in our bodies. However, ultimately it’s up to us to determine our own behavior.

Bounce Sporting Club is an upscale sports bar with locations in Chicago and NYC that offers the best viewing experience of March Madness and many other sporting events. We have dozens of big screen TVs throughout our sports bar, the best sports menu items, and the best cocktails and beer. Our casual sports bar also offers top-notch corporate event venues for either your business or for your next celebration. Below, we’ll take a look at etiquette for sports fans. Contact our sports bar today for corporate event center rental and more!

Be Mindful of Others

Humans, in general, are selfish. However, amongst the company of others, you need to be respectful. For instance, profanity should be out the door, mainly due to the fact there are a lot of children around you. You can cuss like a sailor all you want with your buddies when attending a sports event in person, however, you need to keep it clean. Also, you should say “excuse me” when leaving your seat and “please” and “thank you” when appropriate.

Be On Time

Bounce Sporting Club understands that traffic can be an utter nightmare in Chicago and NYC. So allow plenty of time to make it to the sporting event. When you arrive late, you’ll have to walk in front of other people and cause them to stand up. Standing up can make the people behind them miss plays as well, and during March Madness, no one wants to miss a play.

Stand for the National Anthem and Remove Your Sports Cap

Despite the popularity of now showing respect to the American flag, it’s prudent to show respect to honor all of the Americans who died fighting for our freedoms. Given that the National Anthem was written during the War of 1812 as the Americans were fighting the British defending our independence, it’s only appropriate to remember the sacrifices made by those who have gone before us.

Baseballs, Footballs, Basketballs & More

When a foul ball, football, or even a basketball goes into the stands, they become coveted souvenirs, especially if one of your favorite players was responsible for its placement there. However, the whole point of these souvenirs is not for you — they are for either your child or a nearby child. Think about it: how much joy are you going to get from a baseball that you caught in left field? What are you going to do with it? Odds are, you will place that baseball in a cupboard, forget about it, and let it collect dust.

Compare this to a child. A child will cherish that baseball, play pitch and catch with it with his or her friends, and they may even sleep with it. It is much more meaningful to a child than it ever will be to you. Thus, do the right thing, and hand over a ball when you get one.

While attending March Madness and sporting events in person is exhilarating, it’s not always possible, especially after a long day at work. Bounce Sporting Club is your sports lounge of choice where you can meet up with friends, grab some grub and a beer, and watch March Madness or your other favorite sports team on the big screen. If that’s not enough for you, we offer corporate events venue spaces for your use.

In Chicago, we offer a wide array of choices for your corporate outing. Our Field House is our largest space, able to hold up to 300 people. With 20 big screen TVs and plenty of services, your corporate event participants will have a great time here. If you are seeking a little more intimate setting, our Sky Box can hold 45 individuals and is great for VIP events. For our middle-of-the-road option, you can choose our Clubhouse, which is our most versatile space with a private entrance off the back alley.

At Bounce Sporting Club in NYC, we offer our Library space and our Main Room space that can hold 45 or 250 individuals, respectively.

Bounce Sporting Club endeavors to be your go-to for all of your celebrations, including for your March Madness celebrations. If your team is selected, come on down to our sports bar and cheer your team with others. Call today to book an event room!
