What To Wear to a Work Party

No matter if you’re trying to stand out or blend in, what you wear to your next work party can speak volumes. A work event is the last place that you want to have a fashion faux pas, and we’re here to make sure that you make a lasting impression, in a good way, of course.

At Bounce Sporting Club, we host all sorts of events, but some of our favorites are corporate events or work parties. We love being able to finally provide a venue where you and your employees will actually have fun and enjoy their time. With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the do’s and don’ts of what to wear when it comes work events!

First and foremost, keep in mind the weather. As a sports bar with locations in both New York and Chicago, we know how unpredictable weather can be. Being too hot or too cold can make for an uncomfortable experience that can skew your focus towards that instead of enjoying your time with your colleagues. If your event is indoors, you don’t have to think about this too much but just check the weather just in case.

If the event is during work hours: While some companies prefer to keep their parties after hours, if your company party is during normal office hours, you may find that the attire is slightly different. Since you won’t be running home to change, your attire will probably be closer to normal work attire, but don’t be afraid to dress it up a bit. Unless you’ve received strict guidelines on how to dress, just stick to your normal attire.

If the event is after work hours: If your party is after normal work hours, chances are your event is at a different location than the office. This can give you the chance to get a little spruced up and have fun with your co-workers in a different setting. But don’t forget that you are still at a work function. Have fun and enjoy your night, but keep in mind that your boss will be there and what happens at a work function will be remembered.

What to Wear

Before choosing an outfit, you know your work culture, after all you do work there. But, think about what the culture is like or what previous work functions have been like. Also think about things that might have happened, both good and bad, you’ll be able to figure out what you do want to be remembered for and what you don’t.

Wear comfortable shoes: Chances are that you’ll be mingling with coworkers and walking around to get a drink or two, so you want to wear something that you feel comfortable walking in. When you’re wearing uncomfortable shoes, it can be the worst pain ever, and all you can think of is how bad your feet hurt. Think about where your party is going to be, if it’s outside, stiletto heels that you’ll be aerating the grass with, might not be your best choice.

Wear something you feel comfortable in: While you might want to break out that outfit you just bought, we’d recommend that you choose an outfit that you’ve worn before. You don’t want to have any undergarment slips or find that your dress slides up when you’re walking. When you look good, you feel good, and if your not comfortable you won’t be able to enjoy yourself as much. Corporate functions can be stressful enough, and your outfit is the last thing you should be worried about.

Have fun with it: Just because it’s a work party, doesn’t mean that your outfit has to be boring. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to add a little bit of sparkle. Whether that be a pair of statement earrings or a fun shoe, a corporate event can be a fun place to express yourself more than you may be able to during a normal weekday.

Wear lots of layers: Unless your drinking hot toddies in a ski bar, chances are you don’t need to bundle up. It can get hot here in Chicago and New York, so skip out on the layers. You also don’t want to have to worry about carrying your jacket all night long so just wear something where you can easily roll up the sleeves or something that you’ll be cool in.

Bring a huge bag: While that massive tote bag might be convenient for the office, it’s not convenient for a private work function. If your bag is big enough to take up a seat or knock someone’s drink out of their hands, you might want to leave it at home. Plus, honestly, what do you really need other than your phone, keys, and wallet. Opting for a small cross body bag or a clutch will keep your hands free without being obtrusive.

Wear something you wouldn’t want your boss to see you in: Even if your office is more of a casual scene and you’re great friends with your boss, remember to keep it professional. While it is 2019, and not many of us are wearing three-piece suits to work, keep it classy. It’s probably best to steer away from clothing with low cleavage lines and high hems too. No matter the location or the relationship, dress for success and remember that you’re still representing yourself.

Once again, some of our favorite types of events to host at Bounce Sporting Club are corporate events. If you’re looking for a space that the whole company will truly enjoy, look no further than us. With rooftop views, gourmet food, and a wide variety of drink options, your corporate function will be the talk of the town. Give yourself and your company the event they deserve, call us today and make a reservation at either our Chicago or New York location. We can’t wait to have you here!
